I Choose To Forgive

Forgiveness by Matthew West

I Choose To Forgive

Luke 23:34  Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

This evening while my husband was working late I decided to watch a Christian film on Pureflix and the title of the film is called Maggies Passage and I did not know what I was in for, but this movie has done something to me. It is a story about a young lady who is adopted into a Christian home and after her father had passed away she felt the need to go and look for her birth mother. She did find her birth mother who was unloving and did not want her. Maggie, destroyed the hotel room that she called home and came to a breaking point in her life. She was able to escape from the hotel room that was destroyed and she found some new friends. A couple of Maggie’s new friends that I remember was Grace who encouraged her to call home and Max who became a father figure to Maggie and fixed airplanes. The part of the film that stuck with me was when Max had to do something and Maggie was washing her hands all of a sudden someone grabbed Maggie and 1 of the two men that were there to take Maggie away was Maggie’s birth father. Max had come back and told the two men that they were not taking Maggie anywhere.

The next thing that I saw was Maggie looking her birth father in the eyes and said, I forgive you. While I never will know who my birth father is when I saw Maggie looking in her birth father’s eyes and telling him I forgive you it was as if I was looking at my birth father in the eyes and saying I forgive you. After I finished watching the film I wanted to find a quote on I forgive you and I could not find one that I was looking for. Then I wanted to find a woman in deep thought and I could not find what I was looking for so I decided to make my own and I wrote a letter to my birth father letting him know I choose to forgive. By me writing the letter tonight I feel a little bit of relief. I still have a ways to go but this is a start.

To my biological father1

When we choose to forgive others God will give us the peace that we need to continue with the healing process. There are times where we have to forgive over and over again. Knowing I was conceived from rape I will most likely have to forgive again. The last few weeks I have been so torn up to where I have been sick physically. Tonight I am beginning the healing process once again.

Mercy Endures

One Sunday Evening my husband and I had the privilege to attend my Sister in law’s church and the Pastor was preaching from Psalms 107 and the title of his sermon was “Oh that men would Praise Him.”

The very 1st verse stuck with me. Psalms 107:1

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

Let’s take a look at this verse.

We are to give thanks to God at all times for He is good. God is so good. We are to be thankful in the Good times and the bad as well because he is God and he is good.

This is the part that I like. What does Mercy mean? Mercy means to have a Compassion Treatment.  When I think of Endures, I believe of keeping going, lasting, being patient, being persistent, staying the course.

Let’s take that verse and word it different ways.

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. For his Compassion keeps going forever.

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For his Compassion is patient forever.

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For his Compassion lasts forever.

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For his Compassion is persistent forever.

Think about that today. What a great God that does not give up on his Children and that his Compassion keeps going, is patient, persistent, lasts forever.

Today’s Prayer: Lord Jesus we thank you that your mercy lasts forever and that you have not given up on us. We stumble and fall but your great compassion that you have is so patient, and you pick us up when we fall. We thank you!

Knowing Who You Are In Christ

take-the-time-to-know-god1

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Just take a walk with me in my shoes for a few moments. Think about what it would have been like if you found out you were conceived in rape. How would it make you feel? I don’t think you would have positive feelings at the moment. I sure didn’t. I remember the silence on the phone when my caseworker told me. I remember my caseworker asking me if I was ok. I remember the numb feeling. I remember telling myself ok how do you deal with this? I remember praying hard so that I would not become bitter or angry. I had to pray that for several days. Since I never really told anyone about my beginnings I just put those feelings way in the back of my mind. Since I have started to share the story last August I have had to deal with some emotions. I have seen people who say they are Pro-Life be very nasty towards those of us who are conceived in rape/incest. It hurts when you stand for life and Organizations like the National Right to Life block you from you taking a stand for your people. When people do things like that they are saying your life is not worth anything.
Your situation can be a lot different than mine, and you may feel guilty, you may feel worthless, you may feel unloved.  I have some good news for you; we don’t have to take that negative thinking or live in fear.
Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
The Bible does not exempt Christians from going through anything. I can tell you people who are anointed of God go through so much because of the anointing.

Knowing who you are in Christ
We can change our thinking when all of hell is coming against us. We can stand up and say God has given me the Spirit of Adoption and because he adopted us we can call him Daddy, Father. He is the one that makes us new. When you became/become a Christian, we became/become a new creature. When you know that Jesus Christ (God manifested in flesh) died on the cross for your sins and loved you so much that he did it for you, you can know that old things are passed away and he has made all things new.
When you know who you are in Christ, there is nothing that can get in the way of you knowing how much he loves you, how much he wants to spend time with you. You will know that you are his son or his daughter. You know that he will never leave you or forsake you. You will know so much about your heavenly father. To God, we are more valuable than the sparrow.
